Today, we venture into the heart of the Istrian Peninsula, Croatia, with our first stop at a boutique winery in Motovun, a town known as the birthplace of Teran grape.
This winery is a deeply personal project of a young, passionate winemaker dedicated to reviving and redefining this bold indigenous varietal. As we sip and savor, surrounded by breathtaking vineyard views, we’ll not only taste the essence of Istria’s terroir but also feel the dedication and vision that make these wines truly special.
Motovun: A Hilltop Gem Steeped in History and Charm
Motovun is not only the heart of Istrian Teran but also one of the most picturesque hilltop towns in Croatia, offering breathtaking views of rolling vineyards and the Mirna River valley.

Our journey takes us to Udine, a charming city where Venetian elegance meets Friulian soul. As we wander through its historic piazzas, arcaded streets, and vibrant cafés, we’ll uncover the city’s rich past, from medieval landmarks to stunning Renaissance architecture.
At the heart of Udine, Piazza della Libertà enchants with its Venetian flair, while the grand Udine Castle offers breathtaking views over the city. Along the way, we’ll soak in the lively local atmosphere, explore hidden corners, and savor the authentic charm of this often-overlooked Italian gem.
DOP Collio: The Jewel of Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s White Wines
DOP Collio (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) belongs to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in northeastern Italy. Collio is one of the most prestigious wine areas in the region, known for its elegant white wines, particularly Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio.
The area’s unique combination of rolling hills, Ponca soil (marl and sandstone), and Alpine-Adriatic influences creates ideal conditions for producing wines with great minerality, structure, and longevity.
Today, we’ll visit a charming Collio winery, where we’ll dive into the region’s rich winemaking traditions and enjoy a guided tasting of its finest expressions. After this memorable experience, we’ll gather for a farewell lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, savoring the last flavors of this incredible journey in the heart of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
